                                                      Maharshi Mehi's Biography

( Thou art the Blissful Deity O Lord Sadguru, Thou leadest to the realization of the Supreme Being and Thou art the fountain of all wellbeing and welfare. I make my obeisance to Thee time and again, O Lord Sadguru )
Lord Shri Krishna said in the Gita-

(Whenever there is a decline of righteousness and ascendancy of unrighteousness, then I body myself forth. For the protection of the virtuous, for the destruction of the evil doers, and for establishing Dharma (righteousness) on a firm footing, I get borne from age to age)
At a time, when gap between the high and the low was at its widest, the land of India was smeared with blood of sacrificials in Aswamedh (sacrifices of horses), Gomedha (sacrifices of cows) and Narmedha (sacrifices of human being), the study of the Vedas and scriptures was confined to a limited few and the path of 'True Religion' lay obscure and obliterated, religion was equated to rituals and hypocrisy, Lord Buddha came to kindle the flame of the Real wisdom and Religion in the world. Consequently the monarchs discarded their crowns and robes and began to follow the footprints of lord Budda to propagate his religion. Civilization got clean of the dirt of pomposity and ostentation, the light of enlightenment spread among both, the high and the low and the society and the religion admitted no social rank and distinction.
After Lord Buddha there occurred change in the social , cultural and spiritual values. Religion degenerated. The spiritual, cultural, moral, social, literary, political and economic growth of India got handicapped by cruel aggression of the foreigners. Efforts were made to keep people away from the teaching of the Vedas and the Upanishads. Sants, no doubt propagated the Wisdom Divine and teachings related to Knowledge Absolute. But this again got obliterated and obscure under the influence of several sectarian ideologies, ritualistic practices and hypocrisy. A wrong impression was also created that the thought of Sants were not identical with those of the Vedas. The human society became aimless and got entangled in the cobweb of ritualistic practices and worship of the Gross from alone.
The time was proper for a prophet Incarnate who could enlighten the path by searching after the real and definite form of what had become obscure and obliterated, and who could dive into the depth and find out the secret underneath the pluralistic differences of religions and establish by His distinguished wisdom a fundamental unity of truth between the teachings of the Vedas and the precepts of the Sants ---Link (Victory to all Sants) for, the human socity was suffering unrest, aimlessness, distress caused by malice, differences of opinions among difference sectarian ideologies. Sant Kabir Saheb said ---

Vedas and scriptures are not false, false are those who do not think properly but he did not place the hymns of the Vedas before the people.
After 2400 years of Lord Buddha's incarnation, the holy land of India brought one day prior to his birthday, to the world one highest Spiritual soul, a Deity, in the form of His Holiness Sadguru Maharshi Mehi Paramhansji Maharaj on Vaishakh Shukla Chaturdashi ( the fourteenth day of the bright fortnight of Vaisakh ) in the year 1885. He was borne at His meternal grand father's [ Shri Vidyanath Das ] house in the villalge, Majhuwa under the P.S. Udakishunganj in the district of Saharsa [ now Madhepura ] on 28-4-1885 Tuesday. His father Kayasth by caste was late Shri Babujan Lall Dasji and mother Shrimati Janakvati Devi. His ancestral house is situated at the village, Sikaligarha Dharhara in the district of Purnea in Bihar, Maharshi ji's baptismal name was Ramanugraha Lall Das.
As the saying goes: 'Morning shows the day',maharsh ji was a born yogi and had in Him early signs of a yogi. In His very childhood, He had seven locks of hair in His head. Howsomuch carefully they might be combed everyday, yet they used toform themselves into seven locks spontaneously every morning. While He was four years old He was gone through the ritual of formal 'Mundan Sanskara' by the priest of His family. Later this year, His early education commenced at His village home itself. After learning Kayathi script, he began to learn Deonagari script and mastered it in a rather short period. His precocious mind picked things up quickly and when He was eleven years old He was admitted to Purnea Zila School for His formal education. During this period of His education, He increasimgly devoted Himself to studies of the sacred texts, prayer and meditation. He began to take a keener interest in worship then in studies. While appearing at an English paper of the Matriculation Examination on July 4, 1904, the first question consisted of quoting from memory the poem 'Builders' and explaining it in His own English He first quoted the four lines such as :-
"For the structure that we raise
                                                 Time is with materials field
                                                 Our todays and Yesterdays
Are the blocks with which we build"
But His interpretation of the meaning of the lines was strikingly original and bore a rich religious complexion and spiritual tendencies. He interpreted the lines saying, "The temple of our life is made or marred by the bricks of our virtuous or sinful deeds that we daily perform. One reaps as one sows. We should therefore go on making the temple of our life with the best bricks of virtuous deeds such as prayer, worship and meditation. The best use of time consists in doing virtuous deeds and there is no greater virtuous deed then devotion to God" concluding His answer, He quoted these lines from the Ramayan of Tulsidas---

( The fulfillment of the purpose of being born lies in the devotion to Lord Ram-God, renunciating all else), Obviously, His interpretation unmistakably reveals His natural spiritual tendencies. While writing these lines, He became so much overwhelmed with emotion that He took no other thought, He only begged permission from the invigilator to go out. The invigilator also could not sense and measure the depth of His emotion. He only involuntarily told Him to go out.
Ascetic life and search for Sadguru --
Then and there He did not merely leave the examination Hall, He renounced the world as well, took to austerities and wandered about in quest of real sages and Saints, for the quenchment of His thirst for self-knowledge. This was none too easy at all. So, he went on wandering about in mountains and forests which, no doubt, put Him in untold miseries and pains of body. However, His search for them remained an unfulfilled dream. Still, it did not deter Him. He preferred an ascetic life and did not go in for marriage. At the age of seventeen, He met with Ramanand Swami, a sage of Dariapanth of the village-Jotramroy ( Katihar ) who initiated Him into a regular practice of Manas Jap, Manas Dhyan and Tratak with wide open eyes. He practiced them with tenacity for years but in vain. His thirst for self-knowledge remained unquenched. He resumed His wandering in quest of capable saints who might guide Him to perfection. After years of search, He, however, came into contact with Santmat Sadhana in 1909. This brought Him in contact with the disciple of His Holiness Sant Baba Devi Saheb of Moradabad in U.P., the late Babu Rajendranath Singh ( Mayaganj, Bhagalpur, Bihar) who taught Him the secret method of Dristi-yoga (the Yoga of vision or the yoga by eyesight). This very year He had the fortune to meet His Holiness Sant Baba Devi Saheb, and hear his discourses which not only satisfied Him but also showed the way on to perfection in it. Consequently, Lord Sadgurudeo was initiated into and imparted, the method of Nadanusandhan ( the yoga of searching inner Divine sound or the yoga of sound) in 1914 by His Holiness Sant Baba Devi Saheb.
Attainment of self-knowledge and propagation of Santmat --
He carried on these practices for several years and attained self-knowledge. He had been carrying them till the last moment of His life not because He had left anything unrealized but because of inducing people to follow, and act on, His way of life. He propogated Santmat which consists of the four main practices such as Maanas Jap, Maanas Dhyan, Dristi Yogaa and Naadaanusandhaan. The strength of His propagation of Santmat derives its sources from the Vedas, upnishads and Sants' literature. He supported Himself by cultivation because His spiritual preceptor had commanded Him to live on self-earning rather than begging as most pseudo-saints do these days. In addition to self-earning, He commanded His disciples to keep themselves away from such as five deadly sins as falsehood, stealing, intoxication, violence and adultery. For, without the purity of personal life, one cannot go ahead on the path of salvation. In order to propagate the ideas of Santmat He first founded an Ashram at Sikaligarha Dharhara (Purnea) and later on, several such Ashrams were founded and are being founded at different places in India and abroad. The activities of the Ashrams went on expanding in commensurate with the fast swelling number of His disciples, numbering about 10,00,000. At the ripest age of 102 on 08/06/1986 He left for the Eternal Abode as a perfect yogi (in the evening hour of meditation) while fully absorbed in the meditation according to the Gita's injunction-- "He and he alone reaches that Supreme Divine Purusha who at the time of departure from the body is fully absorbed in seeing the form of the Supreme with great reverence and having holding the life-breath in the space between the two eyebrows by yogic power."
He discarded His perishable body to maintain the law of nature. But His immortal literature, glories and greatnesses will exist till the existence of the sun and the moon in the universe.
